Truth bomb: Stress is KILLING you. I wish I was being dramatic here, but it’s quite true. Statistics say that 60% of human illness and disease can be traced back to stress.
WOW! Pretty unnerving, right?
So what can you do about it? Keep calm and play with play dough!
Again– I’m not joking here. Kneading and rolling dough in your hands distracts your mind and refocuses your energy, which can make you feel calmer.
Now add a favourite blend of essential oils for the magical effects of aromatherapy:
Uplifting/ Energizing Blend: Myrrh & Wild Orange
Calming Blend: Sandalwood, Vetiver, & Patchouli
Grounding Blend: Arborvitae, Frankincense, & Cedarwood
Try all three, but don’t stop there! The combinations are endless, really, so grab a few oils you gravitate towards and mix up your own calming play dough blend.
Don’t have essential oils on hand? Get them here.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of the commercially available food dyes, so I plan to experiment with these natural dyes the next time I make up a batch of this.
Helpful Tips:
- When choosing essential oils for a recipe like this, remember that certain oils can cause skin irritations, so choose your oils carefully. If you’re not sure which oils are appropriate, there are many resources listed here to consult – you may also want to refer to my dilution guide!
- Add your essential oil infused coconut oil 1 tablespoon at a time to prevent your dough from becoming overly oily (the amount of oil you need may vary each time you make it, believe it or not, so it’s best to add it in slowly).
- Roll into balls and seal in an airtight container at room temperature to store! Remember that coconut oil can turn back into a solid if it drops to a cooler temp, so you may need to roll it around in the palm of your hands to soften the dough back up.
